Marlene Waugaman Gibson, age 52, passed away in January 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and service that touched countless lives.
Born in Fermathe, Haiti, Marlene was adopted at the age of four by Rev. Charles and Judith Waugaman. She was raised in Pennsylvania alongside her four brothers—Brad, Seth, Pete, and Nate Waugaman—in a home shaped by compassion, education, and Christian faith.
Marlene attended the Piney Woods Country Life School in Mississippi, where she graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 1991. A standout student-athlete, she was recognized as the top female runner in the state and earned admiration for her drive and dedication.
Later that year, Marlene began her collegiate journey at Clark Atlanta University, where she majored in Chemistry and went on to earn both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Her time at CAU was a pivotal chapter in her life, where she formed enduring friendships and began building the life she envisioned. In May 2006, she married Ola Gibson, and in 2011, she welcomed their son, Omari Gibson, the light of her life.
Professionally, Marlene began her career at Kimberly-Clark Corporation before transitioning into real estate, where she flourished. Her work was marked by excellence, integrity, and a personal touch that endeared her to clients and colleagues alike.
Service was at the heart of Marlene’s life. She volunteered with the YMCA, her Homeowners Association, and various community organizations, always striving to uplift others. A devoted member of Transforming Faith Church, she nurtured her faith through worship and service. Marlene also remained an active and beloved alumna of Clark Atlanta University, contributing her time and talents to alumni committees and initiatives.
Above all, Marlene cherished her role as a mother. Her love for Omari was boundless—rooted in grace, strength, and unwavering belief in his future. She guided him with care, wisdom, and deep affection.
Marlene is survived by her beloved son, Omari Gibson; her mother, Judith Waugaman; her brothers, Brad, Seth, Pete, and Nate Waugaman; and a host of extended family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Charles Waugaman.
Marlene’s warmth, faith, and fierce devotion to those she loved will live on in all who knew her. Her life was a gift, and her memory a blessing.
