Little Hatian Girl

In the mid 70’s, under the bright Caribbean sun, a young Haitian girl named Marlynn took her first steps into a new life — one that would span oceans, cultures, and possibilities. That year, Marlynn was adopted by the Waugamans, a warm and welcoming family from Pennsylvania who opened their hearts and home to a child they had never met, but already deeply loved.

Marlynn was small, curious, and strong — carrying with her the quiet beauty of Haiti: its language, its music, and the spirit of endurance that echoes through its hills and harbors. The transition to America was a world away from the sights and sounds of her birthplace, but the Waugamans made sure their home was filled with love, laughter, and the gentle guidance needed to help Marlynn thrive.

They celebrated her birthday every July with special attention — not just as a day of birth, but as a reminder of the brave new path she walked. Each candle on the cake marked another year of growth, resilience, and discovery. Her parents taught her to embrace her Haitian roots while encouraging her dreams in her new world. Marlynn, in turn, taught them patience, perspective, and the deep joy of seeing life through her eyes.
